Quotes

Modern technology
Owes ecology
an apology
~Alan M. Eddison

This is so true. I completely agree with this quote. With all of our mining technology etc... Technology is destroying the world more quickly. Or is it humans that are destroying the earth? Since humans invented technology, is technology destorying the planet? An example of ecology being destoryed would be open pit coal mining. After you destroy the land, it can never go back its natural state.

It has become appalingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity.
~Albert Einstien

Humans are very intelligent beings. But are we maybe too smart for our own good? Are we forgetting about the simple things in life. Are things becoming too complicated and complex for us to remember the simple things. I agree with this quote. We are forgetting about our humanity. Technology creates money, which in turn creates greed for money, which in turn creates forgotten humanity. Just an example would be creating mines near towns that create water polutants that inturn create cancer.

We as humans we have to take part in saving the earth . We should have never had to recycle and now it should be made manditory to recycle. As important as it is to take care of your body, you should take care of the earth the exact same way. Healthy and special.

Art and tolerance are basic

I want to be an art teacher as well as an artist. I find in our culture in Canada that art is not taken seriously enough. not that art has to be serious but that it is taken into consideration.
Art is part of our everyday life. Art keeps us thinking creatively.
For some people it can help people express emotions when not able to talk or write it down.

In the 2cents worth blog he talks about art and its benefits. Here are some of his ideas:

"are we teaching the beauty of where we live in our schools?"

"are we using our schooling to make our communities more beautiful? Is this seen as a problem that we have any influence over? I think we do, Its why music and art must be seen as basics in our childrens education experience, not secondary to the workbot curriculum."

"A factor that seems to draw creative people is openess, a freedom to express yourself, and to be yourself" I truly believe in this. Saskatchewan is very free and there is a lot of room for creativity in our province.
"how do we teach tolerance, how do you include it in the curriculum"

These are just some great points that he makes in his blog.

Art is truly a form of language and communication. Being creative is being able to solve problems through all daily struggles and events.

All and all I believe that art and creativity are amazing parts of the brain and should be excersised.

Forgot

I truly have forgotten how busy University truly is. I love school. Not too sure if I enjoy the stress. I guess I do enjoy some of the stress and pressure of deadlines.

This is my best semester of school ever. I enjoy every single class i have this semester. Only hope the next couple of years are the same.

Hung out with my lil bro this weekend. He lives in Saskatoon and is soon moving to Edmonton to go to school. So i am trying to get as much time in with him as possible before he leaves.

Its great living in Regina. Its the middle of everything. My family that lives in the North and then the ones from the East all come to Regina a to meet. I am very much enjoy living in Regina. Have not really scene why people have stereotyped Regina?

What the Bleep do we know?

We are God. We are our own reality. We create thoughts which create who we are. Just a few things talked about in the movie "What the Bleep do we know?"
This is a movie that I think everyone should check out. It blew my mind and makes you think.

W-Five "unsafe to teach"

On Sunday evening I watched a program on W-Five called "Unsafe To Teach". The program was about the bullying and abuse that teachers face. It was kind of scary, but had many great points about the issue.

One point made was the fact that maybe the students have more rights then the teacher. Teachers are being disrespected and they believe this is learned in the home. Learning by experience.
It is really scary to think that you may be mentally and physically abused in your work place. Work is suppose to be a safe place.

I believe the evolution of human beings. I believe that we need to create class rooms that provide tolerance and adaptability to these new indigo and crystal children. They learn differently and act differently so we as teachers need to adapt and teach they way they learn.

There were a few teachers on the program, that had the old ideas of teaching, the idea of authority etc.... This will not work on these children because they do not care about authority. We need to figure out how to work with these children.

Football Game

Friday afternoon I get a call from my mom asking if Patrick and I would like to go the Rough Riders Football game. So we went to the game and I sat in the 1st row in sectoin 27. I sat right beside the Chickhen man. I definately did not only have the football as entertainment, I had cheerleadears, and the chickhen man to keep me busy. Made it on the Jumbo-tron a few times. It was a really fun time. And a great game. 5 turns overs and the Riders still won. I do not even care about football too much, but the atmosphere of being with 20,000 is a cool feeling. I also know Nate Davis, partied with him. Super fun times. Definately a crazy guy. Fun to watch the Riders that much more when you know someone on the team. All and all a good weekend so far.

Other blogs

I read one of the blogs that Alec had advised us to read and comment on. The title of the blog published was Of Snowballs and Boulders. It is a great article to read because it keeps me focused on one of the reasons I wanted to be an art teacher and that was to excersise other ways of expressing emotion through art. Art is just another form of communication

Not everyone is great at writing. And some people may even become very frustrated with writing. Creativity is in everything we do. Visual art and the other 4 disciplines in the fine arts are very important to help children, teenagers, and adults to express their emotions in a different creative way. I am very excited to help young people to express things in a very non-threatening way.

Here is the link to Davids blog. Its brings up many educational concepts and ideas that will be useful in our futures http://davidwarlick.com/2cents/.

Thanksgiving

So my family is big due to the fact that there has been some divorce in my family and I have a boyfriend of 8 yrs. So that means alot of turkey. It was a record thankgiving for me. I ate 5 turkey suppers in three days. And every single supper/lunch was amazing. I have to say that This thanksgiving was a record eating weekend for me.

The teachers at our High school in Esterhazy orgainize a car rally scavenger hunt every year for the last 38th years. So we went on the scavenger hunt and it was awesome. Best part was when we had to go into this super old church and walk around and find information in the dark. Creepy thats forsure. Learned some history about the small towns around Esterhazy. The scavenger hunt was a great way to spend time with friends you have not seen for awhile.

All and all it was a great weekend full of friends and family.
Miss everyone

Sculpture

Finished my first sculpture of the semester.
It took me a really long time to get started but I got it finished and I actually enjoyed doing it and the final outcome made me happy.
The critique went well, everyone figured it out that it was about communication thru the ages. Definately a pretty copper piece that i can hang in my living room.
School is pretty relaxed right now, i think this is just the calm before the storm. Its going to get super busy soon, i am sure of it.
good luck to everyone
